In the middle of summer in 2010, my sister and I went for a walk. As we were nearing her house(which was across the street from the playground under the water tower on Harwood), a car flew through a stop sign, drove up into a pavilion, and nearly hit several children and two adult women, one of whom was pregnant. One of the children was a premature baby girl. The mother had to yank the baby out of her stroller and run to the other side of the pavilion. The man drives up into it, hits the stroller(thank God the mother yanked the baby out), gets out of his car and starts screaming at everybody. He gets back in the car, pulls around and nearly hits my sister, her daughter(who was just a few months old at the time) and me. We said if he came back we would call the cops. Sure enough, he did come back about ten minutes later. I look out the window, and he has two of the kids in his back seat, car off, windows all rolled up. In the middle of summer. He has the baby girl halfway in his arms, and he's yanking violently on the mother's arm. The baby was flopping around. I go outside while my sister calls the cops. Five cops in two cars show up. My sister and I were told it was none of our business and to go home. They then proceeded to yell at the mother of the baby, because the driver was the father, and a father deserves the right to see his children. No care at all about the well being of the two young boys(both under the age of 7, no doubt). No care about the well being of the premature baby. No care at all about whether or not this guy was under the influence. No care at all about him driving recklessly into a park pavilion, nearly hitting several children. My sister and I were told to mind our own business and the woman was reprimanded for being selfish. Yesterday(12/05/15) I was assaulted by my mom's husband. I shoved/hit back in self defense. He called the cops and lied to them, saying he was the manager of Midwest Inn(my mom is the manager, he just lives there for free), and that *I* assaulted *him*. Three cops show up, and I'm told to pack my stuff and leave. I point out that he has a box full of weed and a pipe sitting in my mom's room. They tell me that's none of their concern. As I'm packing, I tell the cop who's watching me(for some reason) that I have no car to pack my stuff into(because it was stolen in September), and that I have nowhere to go, because I was homeless when I started working/living at Midwest In. He replies, "I don't care about your problems" and demands I finish packing. I say, "I can't pack *all* this stuff up. I need something to put the rest of it in." He puffs up his chest and shouts, "Keep it up! Keep running your mouth and you're gonna find yourself in cuffs!" That's right, folks. He was going to arrest me because I asked for a box to put my stuff in after being assaulted by a sex offender who was in possession of a buttload of weed. I don't know the officer's name, but he's heavy set and looks like a combination of Chris Christie and the heavyset gay guy from "Modern Family". The sex offender who assaulted me(and isn't legally allowed to work at a motel, since people sometimes have children with them) is Earl Jefferson Cannon, but he goes by "Jeff". He was on the run, hiding out for years after raping a 14 year old, refusing to register. Nothing was done about that. Let that sink in. If I could give this a review *less than* one star, I would. This police department is a joke.
